Formed in 1971, the Plumas County Museum Association, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, private, membership sponsored non-profit society dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the history of Plumas County through the Plumas County Museum. It is governed by an eleven-member Board of Trustees.

The museum association owns and maintains the 1878 Variel Home as well as the 1859 Goodwin Law Office, the oldest continually used law office in the State of California.

It is funded solely through memberships and donations, which are tax-deductible.

Quarterly newsletters, special events, free admission to the museum and a 10 percent discount on store items are some of the benefits of membership. There are six levels of membership.
