Western Pacific Railroad Museum

Historic Railroad Museum

The Western Pacific Railroad Museum located in Portola is a "hands-on" museum with over 100 pieces of rolling stock in their collection. Among these are an example of the Mighty "Centennial" and a Union Pacific DDA40X locomotive, the largest diesel locomotive ever built. The museum has many cars and artifacts of the "The most talked about train in America" - the California Zephyr. They also have one of the largest collections of cabooses in the country, and invite visitors to ride. For a truly unique experience, find out about the Run A Locomotive program and experience for yourself what it's like to be a freight Conductor. Climb aboard, and enjoy railroading in it natural habitat. For more information, or museum hours call 530-832-4131 or visit the museum at wplives.org.
