Pastor Michael Preston
During the Preston’s 28 years in Graeagle, Mike and his wife Carolyn have enjoyed being heavily involved in the life of the community. Carolyn has been involved through the various children’s ministries of the church such as the Jesus Praise Kids children’s choir and AWANA children’s ministry. She was also a Brownies leader when her girls were little. Mike
is involved in the youth and school sports programs. He coached Little League Baseball from Tee ball through Seniors. In addition Mike has coached basketball in summer AAU programs, as well as at the high school level from JV through Varsity levels in both the girls and boys program.
Mike Preston has been married to Carolyn for 37 years. They have three grown children and six grandchildren. Mike has been in pastoral ministry for 32 years, 28 of which as the pastor of the Graeagle Community Church.
Rudyard Kipling once asked the question, what can one know of England who knows only England? Says Mike, “While I understand what he means—I disagree with his premise. Some people visit Graeagle/eastern Plumas County while passing through to another destination. Some stay for a week or two on vacation. Some even make this place an annual vacation destination. Certainly they can appreciate the beauty and charm of our community. But God has given Carolyn and me the privilege of raising our family in Graeagle. We have discovered the real treasure has been to share our lives with the wonderful people of this little mountain community. We have played together and we have worked together. We have celebrated together and we have grieved together. It has been a gift of God’s grace and a profound privilege to serve the Graeagle Community Church and this very special community in the name of the Lord. Thank you for the privilege and thank you for embracing our family.”
On behalf of the Portola Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to thank the Mohawk Valley Independence Day Committee for so graciously honoring our organization with this award.
The Portola Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD) is a service organization of men and women that work very hard to protect and serve the City of Portola with fire and medical aid services.
The department was founded on the principles of providing our community with not only health and safety, but also community support with events such as the community Barbecue Beef Feed, Fireman’s Christmas Party for the kids, and our “Pass the Boot” fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy, to include just a few.
Under new leadership and continued dedication, the founding principle’s still shine today with our growing number of devoted fire fighters who selflessly put the community’s well-being before their own.
Again, thank you for the continued support and recognition of the department and its dedicated volunteers.

Have you purchased this year's theme button? The buttons are available at many Graeagle and Blairsden shops and on Friday during the hustle in the street for donations. Buying a button helps the MVID Committee pay for the fireworks!
To DAN & TREY WEST and GRAEAGLE LAND AND WATER for their support, and for providing personnel for the setup & cleanup of numerous activities. This event would not be possible without their offering the use of the Mill Pond area for the aerial fireworks display, and the Green for the park festivities.
To LANCE WEHRMAN of PLUMAS SANITATION - for the supply and service of our sanitation services.
To RICKY & CANDY ROSS of INTERMOUNTAIN DISPOSAL for their yearly contribution to the overall success of our activities.
