2005 GRAND MARSHAL

Millie Smith

Millie moved to Graeagle from Carmel 29 years ago. Upon arriving, she worked in the hospital clinic for 12 years and was instrumental in the development of Nifty Thrifty, the hospital auxiliary store. She has been a docent at Plumas Eureka State Park for over twenty years, receiving the docent of the year award for her service. She was a member of the Plumas County Commission on Aging as well as an advisor on the area Council on Aging which covers five counties. She was also a member of the Advisory Board for the Community Care Council. She received the “Women of the Year Award” of Eastern Plumas County. She was instrumental in getting the Mohawk Resource Center established and was an active member. To add to her list of accomplishments, she was a member of the Ladies Elks Society and a Hospice Volunteer. Her latest venture has been the establishment of “Millie’s Sierra Red Hatters”, a social organization for women over 50. COMMUNITY APPRECIATION AWARD

This year we are honoring the MOHAWK VALLEY EMERGENCY MEDICAL PERSONNEL. These exceptional men and women volunteer from our community to provide emergency medical and rescue services to Mohawk Valley residents. They attend classes to become certified as EMT’s, First Responders and Fire Personnel. To stay current on procedures, use of equipment and safety matters, they also attend monthly medical and fire meetings as well as training and other activities. We have, without a doubt, Emergency Medical Responders that we can all depend on and look up to with pride. The Fire Protection Districts are looking for more volunteers - for more information call (530) 836-1340.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SPONSORS OF THE

MOHAWK VALLEY INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION,

Our sincere thanks to all who help sponsor this event through your generous donations. Without your support these Independence Day events would not be possible.

Fund raising, it seems, is the most challenging aspect of any organized event. It is very gratifying when so many community members, organizations, businesses, property owners, and individuals demonstrate their unified support. It shows you care about the quality of life and the future of your community.

We wish also to thank those of you who support the MVID events through participation in the various fund-raising events.

An extra thank you should be given to Harvey and Dan West for their support, and for providing personnel for the setup & cleanup of numerous activities. This event would not be possible without the West’s offering the use of the Mill Pond area for the aerial fireworks display, and the Green for the Park Festivities.
