Twinkling white lights and welcoming angels greet visitors and residents alike to the charming town of Graeagle during the holiday season. And the focal point of community spirit is the town's Christmas tree, bedecked with colorful lights, and surrounded by angels, in Graeagle Park. Townspeople gathered for the annual tree lighting on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Santa and Elf festivities began in the early afternoon with tree sales sponsored by the Boy Scouts, an open house at the Graeagle Preschool and tempting refreshments provided by local merchants. Children were entertained with horse drawn wagon rides through town and a visit with Santa. Santa posed for pictures with youngsters and listened carefully to their long list of wishes. The Graeagle merchants sponsored the day's events which were capped off with the tree lighting at 5 p.m. and Christmas carols. Each year the event grows more successful, drawing a larger crowd. Weather cooperated, though many of the attendees stayed warm by standing close to the bonfire, and sipping the cider and hot chocolate provided by downtown merchants.
