EPCAN (Eastern Plumas Community Assistance Network)
EPCAN is the local food bank in Portola which serves the need of families in Eastern Plumas County. EPCAN works in partnership with the Portola Family Resource Center. EPCAN supports, funds, and operates the food bank located at 120 Nevada Street in Portola. The food bank is staffed by volunteers and one paid site manager. They organize and manage the ordering and distribution of food to families in need. Food consists of commodities and perishables purchased or provided by the Northern Nevada Food Bank, or food purchased from various stores in the area. EPCAN depends entirely upon donations of food or money to keep their doors open. Each month EPCAN provides a 3-day emergency food supply to families, as well as perishables and federal commodities. This past year the monthly average number of clients served has been 160. The monthly average number of households has been 129.
EPCAN thanks the Graeagle Independence Day Committee for the Community Appreciation Award. Donations to EPCAN can be sent to EPCAN, 120 Nevada Street, Portola, CA. 96122. Volunteers are also welcomed and needed throughout the year.
Have you purchased this year's theme button? The buttons are available at many Graeagle and Blairsden shops and on Friday during the hustle in the street for donations. Buying a button helps the Graeagle Independence Day Committee pay for the fireworks!
